This has to be one of the most enjoyable episodes of Tales from the Crypt I have seen so far, and it starring Lance Henriksen is only half of the fun. When hardcore gamblers Reno Crevice (Lance Henriksen) and Sam Forney face off in a “loser leaves town for good” poker game they soon learn that the game will be much deadlier than they thought.

Right from the get-go this episode becomes awesome as we watch Lance Henriksen walk into the bar, dressed in cowboy attire, and order a whiskey shooter on the house. His status is impeccable in those parts, and his arch nemesis Sam is in the building. When they agree to their duel they roll dice to see who goes first, and from then on out we are faced with insane antics as they constantly match each other in this battle for the first hand in their card game. The rolling of the dice leads to more drastic challenges like Russian Roulette and finger dismemberment, ultimately building up to a climax you should expect but do not see coming. This story may not sound like much, but the intensity it brings with it is incredible thanks to an engaging story, expert direction from Walter Hill (The Warriors), and superb acting from Lance Henriksen and Kevin Tighe.

Overall, Cutting Cards is an awesome episode of Tales from the Crypt that brings an immense amount of tension in a simple but very effective package. Highly recommended.
